A 13-year-old boy in Western Australia has been hailed as “superhuman” after swimming 4 kilometers through shark-prone waters to help save his family.
The family—comprising the boy, his 47-year-old mother, a 12-year-old brother, and an 8-year-old sister—were kayaking and paddle boarding when strong winds swept them out to sea. With the situation worsening, the boy made a courageous decision to paddle back to shore and raise the alarm.
After the kayak began taking on water, he removed his life jacket and swam the remaining distance, covering two nautical miles in the water alone. The total effort took approximately four hours. Police and rescue teams praised the boy’s bravery, noting the exceptional endurance and presence of mind required to complete such a feat in dangerous conditions.
Once the boy reached land, he alerted authorities, prompting a multi-agency search and rescue operation. Later that evening, a rescue helicopter located the stranded family members, and all were brought safely to shore.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the teen’s extraordinary courage and quick thinking under life-threatening circumstances.
