BLACKPINK’s Jennie Has a New Song for Netflix’s Cinderella Remix Steps

Critical Content | Editorial report: October 27, 2026

BLACKPINK’s Jennie is contributing a new original song to a very different take on Cinderella. Netflix confirmed in October that the singer appears on the soundtrack for Steps, an animated comedy-adventure scheduled to premiere on November 20, 2026.

Jennie’s track is titled “Someone to Hold.” The October 15 trailer campaign offered a preview, while the full song and accompanying film soundtrack are scheduled for release alongside the movie. That makes this a forthcoming music release as of October 27, not a song that has already received a full public release.

The stepsisters take the center of the story

Instead of telling the familiar fairy tale solely through Cinderella’s experience, Steps focuses on her stepsisters, Lilith and Margot. Ali Wong voices Lilith, Stephanie Hsu plays Margot and Amanda Seyfried voices Cinderella.

The setup turns an old good-versus-evil division inside out. Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s wand, creating trouble that ultimately requires the characters to work together. Bette Midler voices the Fairy Godmother, and Nikki Glaser provides the voice of Priscilla, a scheming new antagonist.

Music connects the characters

The soundtrack brings Jennie together with contributions from Rose Gray, EMEI and Seyfried. Justin Tranter worked on its original songs, while film composer Kris Bowers provides the score. Jennie’s inclusion gives music fans a different way into the animated feature, even if they are not already following its cast.

Netflix frames the film as a story about belonging and the mistaken assumptions people make about one another. The music and fantasy setting may be playful, but the emotional premise centers on relationships among the women who have traditionally been cast as rivals.

The movie is directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa. Its announced November 20 arrival is a future release date and remains subject to Netflix’s schedule.

The verifiable news today is Jennie’s announced soundtrack contribution and the upcoming release, not claims about reviews, chart performance or audience reactions that cannot exist before the full launch.
