How Many Squares Do You See? The Answer Is 30 — Here’s Every Single One

The answer is 30.

The grid is 4 by 4, and the squares hide inside each other:

  • 16 smallest squares (1×1)
  • 9 squares made of four small ones (2×2)
  • 4 squares made of nine small ones (3×3)
  • 1 big square around the whole thing (4×4)

16 + 9 + 4 + 1 = 30 squares.

Most people stop at 16 or 17 (the small ones plus the outside). The 2×2 set is the one almost everybody misses — there are nine of them. How many did you get? Tell us in the comments, then try the triangle puzzle on our page.
