A 53-year-old woman in the United States has been arrested after breaking into homes—not to steal, but to clean them. Susan Warren, who has now been dubbed the “Cleaning Fairy,” reportedly entered residences, washed dishes, vacuumed carpets, and took out the trash, then left a handwritten bill for $75 and her contact information.
Warren told police that she was attempting an unusual form of marketing for her cleaning business, randomly selecting homes to demonstrate her services. Homeowners described the encounters as bizarre, with one saying she “acted like it was normal” when contacted about payment. In one instance, a homeowner’s 19-year-old daughter, who was asleep during the visit, initially assumed her mother had hired a cleaner.
While no theft occurred, the unconventional strategy backfired. Warren was arrested on burglary charges. In court, the judge sentenced her to probation and prohibited her from cleaning anyone else’s home outside of her own.
The case serves as a reminder that even well-intentioned or creative marketing techniques must comply with the law, and that trespassing—even without theft—is a criminal offense.
