There are exactly 7 differences — here is every one of them.
The scene: a cozy living room with a lit fireplace — mantel with framed photos and a clock, an armchair with a cushion and throw blanket, a rug, a bookshelf, a cat by the fire, a window with curtains, and a mug on a side table. Same room, two pictures — and these are the only 7 things that changed (left picture → right picture):
- Fireplace logs: 3 → 2. The fire is burning one log fewer in the second picture.
- Mantel clock: 6:00 → 7:30. Time jumped an hour and a half — one of the easiest to miss because the clock itself never moved.
- Framed photos on the mantel: 3 → 2. The photo on the right end of the mantel is gone.
- Cat by the fire: asleep → awake, sitting up. The cat curled up sleeping by the fire in the first picture is sitting up awake in the second.
- Armchair cushion: striped → plain. Same cushion, stripes removed.
- Mug on the side table: present → missing. The mug that sat on the side table in the first picture has vanished.
- Window curtains: tied back → closed. The curtains framing the window are drawn closed in the second picture.
That’s all 7 — nothing else in the room changed: the throw blanket, the rug, the bookshelf and the fire itself are identical in both pictures. The two traps in this one are the clock (same clock, different time) and the cat (same cat, different state) — your eyes file both under “still there” and move on. Count the states, not just the objects.
How many did you find before checking — all 7, or did the clock’s quiet hour-and-a-half slip past you? Tell us below, and watch for tomorrow’s spot-the-difference on our page.
