Tyron Woodley is keeping a close eye on the next wave of combat-sports promotions, and Ki MMA is now part of that conversation.
Woodley appeared at the September 2026 launch of Ki MMA in New York alongside founder Scott Coker and a long list of veteran fighters and champions. The new promotion is expected to launch in early 2027 with a tournament-focused format.
Ki MMA is built around a different presentation
Ki MMA has announced plans to stage bouts in a ring rather than a cage and to begin with a 32-man featherweight world grand prix. The promotion has described the concept as a return to the tournament roots and martial-arts culture that shaped earlier eras of MMA.
Woodley’s presence at the launch connected him with figures including Nate Diaz, Randy Couture, Fedor Emelianenko, Cris Cyborg, Eddie Alvarez, Royce Gracie and others who have competed across multiple generations of the sport.
Woodley says the right MMA opportunity still interests him
During his September 16 appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Woodley discussed Ki MMA while also explaining that he intends to give his MMA career a proper closing chapter. He has not announced a signed fight with Ki MMA, but he has said he is open to opportunities that make sense for both sides.
That is significant because Woodley is no longer approaching his career like a contender trying to climb a traditional UFC ladder. At this stage, he is evaluating individual opportunities based on competition, business and the value his name can bring to an event.
A connection to Scott Coker matters
Coker has spent decades promoting major combat-sports events through Strikeforce and Bellator. Woodley fought under the Strikeforce banner before becoming UFC welterweight champion, so the two are connected to an earlier chapter of Woodley’s rise.
Whether Ki MMA becomes part of Woodley’s final MMA run remains to be seen, but his interest adds another potential route as he continues competing in wrestling and discussing a return to full mixed martial arts.
