There are exactly 6 differences — no more, no less.
The two pictures look identical at a glance: the photographer, the backdrop, the front row of children, the teacher’s desk. But Panel B changed exactly six things. Here they are, one by one:
- The backdrop: stars in the first picture → stripes in the second.
- One child’s hair bow: a child in the front row wears a hair bow in the first picture — it’s removed in the second. (Yes, we checked the hair first too.)
- The photographer’s camera: the flash unit is removed from the top of the camera in the second picture.
- The front row: a stool is added in the second picture — nobody is sitting on it, which is exactly why most eyes slide right past it.
- The teacher’s desk: the apple becomes an orange in the second picture. Same spot, same size, different fruit.
- The class sign: it reads “3rd Grade” in the first picture and “4th Grade” in the second — the whole class got promoted between photos.
That’s the full list: backdrop, bow, flash, stool, apple-to-orange, and the sign. If your list has a seventh difference, look again — it’s the same in both pictures, and it’s designed to make you doubt yourself. The hardest two for most people are the missing flash (our brains fill in what a camera “should” have) and the added stool (we hunt for things that changed, not things that appeared).
