Live-Action ‘Moana’ Starts Streaming on Disney+ With Catherine Lagaʻaia Leading the Voyage

Critical Content | Reported October 23, 2026

Disney’s live-action Moana became available on Disney+ on October 21, 2026, giving viewers a home-streaming option after its July theatrical release. The film stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui.

Disney’s official guide, revised October 21, confirms the streaming availability and introduces the cast, music and creative team behind the reimagining of the animated adventure.

A new performer in the lead

Lagaʻaia takes on the role voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho in the animated Moana films. The story follows a young voyager who travels beyond Motunui’s reef to restore prosperity to her community.

Cravalho remains involved in the live-action film as an executive producer. Disney also says she performs on the new song ‘Along The Way’ alongside Lagaʻaia and Johnson, linking the animated film’s leading voice with the new adaptation.

Familiar songs, a different production

Thomas Kail, known for stage and screen work including Hamilton, directed the new film. Disney names John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, alongside Johnson and Lagaʻaia.

The production adapts the original story with live-action performers and cinematic effects. It is a remake, not a new animated installment or a third chapter following Moana 2.

Where viewers can find it

The U.S. Disney+ guide lists the 2026 film as streaming on the service. International access, age ratings and subscription conditions may differ, so viewers should use their territory’s Disney+ listing for confirmation.

The streaming launch is dated October 21. This report does not assume updated viewing totals or audience reaction beyond the company’s published distribution announcement.
